Kelly was born in California, and lived up and down the state as a child. Though her love of music has been lifelong, Kelly was convinced until she was fourteen that she would be the first woman to play Major League Baseball (second base, or centerfield, perhaps). One broken tailbone changed everything, and her passion for sports poured into her affection for music. She never looked back. In high school in West Chester, PA, she involved herself in every ensemble she could fit into her schedule, and found that choral music was the very best fit. Kelly earned a degree in Music Education from Syracuse University, and while she was there, her time in the Women's Choir led her to the Mandarins. For three years, she directed and arranged for the all-female group, and was instrumental in the growth of contemporary a cappella music at Syracuse. Her arrangements have won awards, and while she was at SU, she was the sole recipient of the Earl George Award for Choral Excellence in 2002.
After finishing classes at Syracuse, Kelly began working as an interactive performer for Scarlett Rat Entertainment at the Dickens Festival in Skaneateles. For three years running, Kelly has also served as Music Director for the festival. This has led to various other fabulous gigs as an entertainer, and many wonderful friends. Today, she lives in Philadelphia with Nate and their two cats. Between teaching voice lessons and running classes for the musical theatre program she created at the Music Training Center in Conshohocken, she continues to write and arrange all styles of music for a cappella groups. From time to time, she serves as a judge on the a cappella circuit, adjudicating both collegiate and high school events for Varsity Vocals.
Kelly's music has been featured in such diverse places as the independent film Fake I.D. and the recently released children's album Magic Parade (by "Mrs. McPuppet," Elizabeth McMahon). Her arrangement of Where is the Love, the result of a clinic with the talented high school a cappella group Beyond Measure is scheduled to be included on the 2006 Best of High School A Cappella CD.
